Bakegami is a retro-inspired 2.5D horror game inspired by a demo I developed a few years back for an “Interactive Application and Video Game Development” competition. There were 12 teams and my team got third place! The game is set in Japan and follows a young girl from a fishing village who gets wrapped up in a cult. In the gameplay, yōkai can be summoned to help protect the player from enemies, and to solve simple puzzles in exploration.

It’s inspired by early 3D games, my favorite horror media, and my adoration of Japanese mythology and culture. If you’re more interested in the history of the game or my (in)experience as a developer, check out the links below.

In Bakegami the player controls Mira, a girl who often finds herself drifting off into her own mind. As she is pulled deeper into the Cult of the Crimson Lotus, she has only herself to rely on to keep her alive. Players will navigate mysterious forests, abandoned buildings, the cult’s red-light district, and more locations as they unravel the secrets behind the cult’s leader and Mira herself. Befriend yōkai to protect Mira as she descends into the belly of the beast.

The producer and vocalist on this song are a huge inspiration behind the game. :)
